Hurley’s Amazing Moon Crater

Marvin the MartianAt first I thought I had received some more odd spam email or from Marvin the Martian to finally blow up Earth’s moon, but it wasn't.

The ominous email started with the subject line of “LROC :: Moon target acquired notice” and filled with cryptic text:

”LRO/LROC :: TARGET ACQUIRED

===========================

Feature nickname: Hurleys Crater

Request date: 2010-12-27”

I thought this was some odd email phishing attempt at first. Then I remembered, back in 2010 there was a Arizona State University project to map moon craters and features and you could schedule a satellite mapping of the crater. So 5 years later my crater was mapped and photographed. It is a really nice crater and perhaps someday I can visit it.

Here is, Hurley’s Crater!

You too can submit your own request but make sure you have patience to await the photos of your lunar feature.
