This is our tenth year as a sponsor of the Pacific Northwest FIRST FRC Robotics District Championship. This year the championship is being held in beautiful Portland Oregon at the Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum April 5-7th. Autodesk will have a booth as well a a lounge for mentors. There are over 50 regional teams qualified to compete in this event including the team that I have been a mentor on the past 3 seasons, The Flaming Chickens Team 1540 of Catlin Gabel. Team 1540 used Autodesk Fusion 360 for the entire design of their competition robot “Pandora” this year.
The winners of this event will be moving onto the FIRST Championships in Houston Texas.
Admission is free and the competitions are amazing to see live in person and get inspired by young adults designing, building, and programming robots in this competition. For those unable to attend the matches in person the matches will also be streamed on the web (https://www.thebluealliance.com/event/2018pncmp).
“FIRST Robotics Competition
Dubbed the varsity Sport of the MindTM, FIRST Robotics Competition is for young people grade 9-12 and ages 14-18 years old. FIRST Robotics Competition combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources and time limits, teams are comprised of 4 or more students and are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand”, work on team building skills and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to “real-world” engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team.”
