REAL 2016 – Hoping to See You in 3D

If you are involved in reality capture, computing and creation 3D technologies, I hope you are in San Francisco preparing to attend REAL 2016. The REAL 2016 conference will be the place to be to learn about the very latest technologies and cutting edge workflows. I will be there both days and am looking forward to all the great products, technologies, networking, and presentations. The location at Fort Mason is also one of the most scenic conference locations for a conference. You must see the sun setting over the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay at the end of the day from Fort Mason if the weather cooperates.

The 3D print of the USS Arizona will be on display at REAL 2016 which represents one of the most historic as well as complex 3D captures taking place both above and below the surface of Pearl Harbor by a diverse group of people and latest technologies.  3D print of the WWII Battleship USS Arizona

The “Laser Cowboys” Adam Metallo and Vince Rossi, 3D Program Officers, Smithsonian Institution Digitization Program will be at REAL discussing the amazing and highly detailed 3D capture of the Apollo 11 command module.

imageI just ran into Adam and Vince in a reception so be on the lookout for the two tomorrow at REAL and catch their presentation and exhibit. I don’t know another single duo of people with the amount of experience and technology capturing such items as Abraham Lincoln’s death mask to the much alive President Obama’s face in 3D as well as many other unique reality capture projects of items in the collection at the Smithsonian. Sly Lee of the Hydrous will be speaking at the event show showing how scientists today are using Autodesk memento to capture in 3D and document coral reefs to track the changes.
Just this afternoon I spotted a new Autodesk Gallery exhibit at the Autodesk One Market office featuring Sly’s work in 3D SOS on capturing coral including a video and then a specimen of coral and a 3D print of the coral made using Autodesk memento. Check out more of the work being accomplished by the Hydrous. http://thehydro.us/3d/ and check outThe Hydrous Maldives 2015 Expedition by The Hydrous on Vimeo.

I hope to see you at REAL and perhaps get a chance to discuss what you are doing and find interesting.
