Autodesk University 2015 just ended, but the impact will live on in the knowledge gained from the classes and sessions, new friends made, and with the 150 prosthetic hands made by 800 awesome AU attendees that volunteered during to help assemble the 3D printed prosthetic hands for children. The volunteer activity was organized by the Autodesk Foundation and–e-Nable to provide affordable prosthetics for children. The 3D printed hand kits were printed by Voodoo Manufacturing.

The prosthetic design is open source and there are many variations and themed ones like pink to Captain American. Ben Thompson, Autodesk sustainable business program manager showed me how some attendees used Autodesk Fusion 360 to create some custom options for the prosthetic hands to make a child’s life a little easier.

So while there is a great deal of fun and learning at an event, it makes you feel better knowing children’s lives will be improved as a result of your small volunteering effort.
