This is a great Autodesk intern position (for an amazing human) in our Boston BUILD Space.
Intern: Robotics in Construction
Location: Boston, MA -United States
Job ID: 19WD31487
Position Overview
Autodesk seeks an experienced intern to work with our Autodesk Technology Center team in the BUILD Space to envision and demonstrate novel applications for robotic fabrication in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.
The Autodesk Technology Center in Boston is a research and development workspace where Autodesk invites startups, colleges and universities, and industry experts to explore ways to advance the building industry. The center focuses on industrialized construction, digital fabrication, automation and robotics in construction, and other ideas that are transforming the built world. Located in Boston’s Seaport Innovation District, the BUILD Space offers teams access to large-format fabrication equipment and project space, as well as training and expertise from Autodesk personnel. Resident teams test and develop solutions that will improve how we build the places where we live and work and the infrastructure we rely upon. More than just a workspace, the center fosters an open community where industry thought leaders can collaborate on a shared vision of the future of construction.
To realize the potential for new opportunities for automation in construction, the BUILD Space seeks a highly motivated intern to join our team for the summer of 2019.
Responsibilities
This internship requires self-guided creation and the intern will move between tools, materials, and digital modelling environments to propose and execute a project or series of projects that respond to the questions: How can the design for automated assembly inform the design of building parts and components? and; In what ways can industrial robots be incorporated into the assembly of building components?
Responsibilities
-
Leverage digital tools within the BUILD Space to demonstrate robotic fabrication (Make things with robots!)
-
Propose and execute a project or series of projects using the industrial robotic manipulators and mobile robotic platforms within the BUILD Space (currently IRB 6700 with 7th axis positioner, 2-IRB 4600s with 40’ 7th axis linear rail, and several smaller machines including ABB-YUMI collaborative manipulator)
-
Work in collaboration with the Autodesk Dynamo team to utilize novel robotic fabrication workflows
-
Collaborate with the BUILD Space Research Strategists to demonstrate a proof of concept project utilizing the two new “Mobile Robotics Platforms” in the BUILD Space
-
Engage BUILD Space residents on robot-related projects and work collaboratively on the development of tooling and workflows with various BUILD Space teams
