This past weekend the FIRST Robotics PNW district 8 playoffs were held in Oregon City, Oregon. The alliance of teams 1540 Flaming Chickens, 2471 Team Mean Machine, and 5468 Retro-bots won the event. Congratulations teams!

There were so many amazing teams and their robots in the event and supporting parents, teachers, mentors, sponsors, and FRC volunteers making the event a big success and great time for everyone.

I have been working with team 1540 Flaming Chickens of the Portland school Catlin Gabel for a few months now. Not only have I been honored to get to know this amazing group of teens, but I have been humbled by their knowledge and teamwork. The team designed their robot named Zuko using Autodesk Inventor which prepared them for design and build issues to be found early in the design phase, rather than found during build, testing or competition field.  I am the one having learned a great deal from team 1540 and their lead mentors Dale Yocum and Andrew Merrill. Next up for this well oiled team is the Autodesk PNW Championship in Portland this week where the winners of this event will being go to the FIRST Robotics World Championship later this month.

Join all of us in rooting for all FRC Teams!

If you are attending the event, chase me down and say “hi” or stop by the Autodesk booths.

A sincere thank you to FRC, volunteers, mentors, parents, schools, sponsors, and most importantly to all the kids involved in this amazing competition.
